Charlotte 49ers Rugby Club Announce Team Captains for 2018-2019 Season
Charlotte 49ers Rugby continue their tradition of developing local talent with the appointment of Jordan Thompson and Blake Jackson as team captains for the upcoming season. Jordan and Blake both enter their senior years on the back of All Conference Honors and a National 7s Championship winner’s medal.
With a National Championship winning team made up of players entirely from NC, the local connection continues with both players attending high school in Charlotte before enrolling at UNCC. Thompson is a graduate of Hough High School, where, as well as playing rugby, was a State Champion wrestler. Jackson was a rugby State Championship winner with Charlotte Catholic High School and also featured on the wrestling team.
Head Coach John Brown was full of praise for both players “These two young men are not only excellent players but I have seen them grow to become leaders off the field. One of our missions is to develop young men that give back to their school, teammates and community and we are very proud that Blake and Jordan are local boys that have prospered in our program”.
The 49ers start their fall season on September 1st with a game vs. Duke University before kicking off their Conference season at home vs. Western Carolina on September 8th. “We have a tough season ahead of us” says Jackson “but we are looking forward to the challenge”.
